Hence our 2nd person is not "our" 2nd person. This calls for true humility and careful attention as we prepare to proclaim Law and Gospel.Jdoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13604679560128219344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627517209657132818.post-50103498120264451502009-06-03T09:54:25.217-05:002009-06-03T09:54:25.217-05:00I too, use 2nd person when preaching -- thank you ...I too, use 2nd person when preaching -- thank you for your thoughtsPastor Learyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10893713469310627346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627517209657132818.post-25098403955956711242009-05-28T12:52:55.347-05:002009-05-28T12:52:55.347-05:00Forde's "Theology is for Proclamation" is a helpfu...Forde's "Theology is for Proclamation" is a helpful discussion of this.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15958311988623152949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627517209657132818.post-34676048960982623652009-05-28T09:07:14.869-05:002009-05-28T09:07:14.869-05:00Eric, get some sleep.

Elsewhere, I've used this as a distinction of pastoral preaching vs lay proclamation, without any quantifications or qualifiers as to one being more "effective" than the other.

I agree with the original post. Preaching is, in a broad sense, a "general absolution," that scatters the good seed of the Gospel without targeting any particular kind of soil.WM Cwirlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12317197804776939257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-627517209657132818.post-7539420638388232142009-05-28T06:30:27.258-05:002009-05-28T06:30:27.258-05:00I always preach in the 2nd person singular (when a...I always preach in the 2nd person singular (when a distinction can be made, e.g., "your life" not "lives"). As a preacher, I am the Lord's mouth as He speaks to His Bride. Such an intimate conversation requires the 2nd person singular.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
